Who am I?

Hey! I’m Blake, a 20 year old artist studying Mediavormgeving at Alfa-college Groningen. I’m a third year student specializing in various forms of 2D art. I love making illustrations, concept art, pixel art and graphic design! I’ve been drawing traditionally ever since I can remember and started creating digital art in 2021 when I got my first Ipad. Since then, I’ve been more serious about making art and actively working to improve in various skills. Besides my studies I love to create art for others, whether this is through commissions, art trades or just as a gift!

Programs I use

- Procreate
- Aseprite
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Indesign
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Live2D
- Canva

Internship Speeltuincentrale:
coloring page

April 2026

A playground in Groningen was renovated and to celebrate the re-opening I was tasked to design and illustrate a coloring page. This coloring page was for children in the area, the winner would help with the opening of the playground!

This is the sketch I made for the coloring page, based on the pictures I had of the real playground. I tried to clearly depict the new sandbox that was added to the playground. Whilst sketching I kept the target audience in mind, making sure the coloring page was clearly readable and easy to color for young children.

This is the finished coloring page! I drew this entire page in Procreate.

Internship Speeltuincentrale:
posters for Speelfestivals

April 2026

To promote an upcoming event called "Speelfestival" I created a poster which was distributed in various ways.

This is the main poster I designed for this event. The flower graphic was designed by a previous intern, I created the other assets in Adobe Illustrator. I put all elements together in Canva, because this is the program this company likes to use.

I distributed this poster through various neighborhoods in Groningen to promote the event in the areas it actually takes place in!

Internship Speeltuincentrale:
Video for socials

Fabruary 2026

I worked together with another intern to create a video to promote our upcoming event in a playground.

Video

We recorded this video using my phone because we sadly did not have access to better recording equipment. After filming I edited the video in Adobe Premiere Pro. I added subtitles, transitions and images to the video.

Poetry posters

November 2025

A project organized by my school: Alfa-college. I worked together with a small team to create posters based on poems by Arjen Boswijk. We are combining various traditional art techniques and turning these into posters that will be printed in A3 size!

Poster 1: Ik dacht alles

Three concept sketches I made. When sketching I kept in mind the technique I was planning on using: linocutting. Because of this, i decided to only use 2 colors in my sketch.
I showed these sketches to Arjen Boswijk, he had a strong preference for the 3rd concept.

The result! I traced my sketch onto an A4 linocutting block and cut out the areas that needed to stay white. The print that resulted from this process was then scanned and I digitally altered the colors and cleaned up the areas that needed it.

Poster 2: Directeur met krullen

This poster was made using the etching technique.

These were my concept sketches for this poster, Arjen Boswijk and I both loved the first concept.

Poster 3: Weekdier

This poster was made completely digitally. I drew the shapes of the animals and the grass in Procreate, where I was also able to apply textures.

Rijksmuseum Van Oudheden

October 2025

A project organized by my school: Alfa-college. I worked with a small team to create various illustrations and animations based on a Greek vase. The goal was to make the museum more interesting for young people.

Example of some of the assets I created for this project. These are 2 frame animations made in Illustrator. The characters will speak and tell some information about themselves. This way, the information gets told in a more interesting manner!

This is the vase this project was based on. We took each of the characters on the vase and turned them into illustrations based on the original style of the vase.

Some of the sketches I made for this project. I quickly sketched these, trying to stick to the original style of the characters on the vase.

GameMaker RPG Mock-up

September - November 2024

A mock-up RPG style game I created in GameMaker Studio. My first ever use of GameMaker.

Gameplay recording

Screenrecording of the gameplay in GameMaker. All assets and coding by me.
There are no core gameplay mechanics, but I programmed in a working depth system (the player can walk behind and in front of objects). I also added transitions when switching between certain rooms and a simple start menu. I never finished the text dialogue you see when talking with the NPC but it is functional.

Spritesheet of the player and NPC, made in Aseprite. The player has a 4 frame 4 directional walking animation. The NPC stands still but has a simple idle (blinking) animation.

Some concept art I drew when designing the NPC and player.
The NPC character is a young woman who lives in the red mansion. She needs to look sophisticated but also gentle, sweet and caring.
When designing the player character, I first made her have a red shirt to fit in with the mansion. I later realized that I instead want her to stand out, which is why I ended up choosing a blue shirt instead.

Some of the assets I created for the red mansion. All of these were created in Aseprite and were either imported as sprites or as tilesets.

Visual Novel Mock-up

December 2024 - January 2025

A mock-up visual novel game, focused on concept creation as well as some pixel art asset creation.

Background assets made in Aseprite. They include a simple 4 frame animation with moving leaves, to give the background a little more life.

Asset for a screen transition and the main character's facial expression assets. Both were created in Aseprite.

Some concept art I did to develop the art style of the game. I decided to try and use an unique (and limited) color palette for this to challenge myself.
The concept art depicts the main character as well as the city she lives in. The city is set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk era.

Concept art for some specific story parts and an alphabet I designed for the signs that are visible throughout the city.

Quick character design assignment

January 2026

A quick character design I made based on a prompt ~2,5 hours

I analyzed the prompt and took some of my favorite keywords out of the text. I focus on these keywords when coming up with a moodboard for my character design. In this moodboard I include the world that the character lives in, any important clothing or accessory ideas and I add any images that set the tone for the overall "vibe" of the character.

The first concept sketches I made for this character design. I knew I wanted a tall silhouette (moves like the wind and shadow inspired). I was first thinking of giving him a large cape, but wanted his character to be more unique. I ended up changing his cape to long hair instead, which flows behind him like a shadow.

The finalized character design sheet(s). I tried to quickly sketch the character while still making the most important details about his character stand out. I show the two versions of his hair (standing, calm versus what he looks like in a fight or assassination). I also added an additional reference showing his body type and body scarring.
